Phuket Fishing, Sailing & Boating

Phuket is rapidly becoming a top game and sportfishing destination in Southeast Asia.  Some of the more recognizable species include Marlin, Sail fish, Tuna, Wahoo, Barracuda, Trevally and many more.  Not only is the fishing good around Phuket, but also in the nearby provincial waters of Krabi, the Similan Islands, and also the Phi Phi islands.

If hooking up the big one is on your activity plans, then you’ll stand a good chance of catching something, just not necessarily “the big one”. The fishing boats usually depart from Chalong Bay in the morning and go out to Racha Island. At many of the fishing spots, you’ll encounter quite a few other fishing boats as well as a number of dive boats and long tail boats. Like most holiday destinations, you can charter a whole vessel for yourself and your mates, or you can rent a seat and pole on the boat and hope that the captain has enough other punters to ensure a day out.

Phuket Sailing

Phuket is a dream for those who enjoy sailing.  There are many fine places to stay at anchor here.  These include the Boat Lagoon, Ao Chalong,  as well as Naiharn Beach.  One of the more prestigious races  Southeast Asia now is the Kings Cup Regatta.
For those who just want to come and rent a sailing yacht (either with or without a captain depending on your needs, sailing ability and qualifications) you can contact Sunsail at the Boat Lagoon.  They have sizes ranging from approximately 28 feet up to over 50 feet.

Phuket Boating

If you just want to rent a vessel for the day to take you wherever you would like to go, there are many "speed boats" available for hire by the day.  The rate depends on the size of the boat, the location you would like to go, and your bargaining ability.  Expect to pay somewhere in the neighborhood of 10,000-15,000 baht for a nice boat.  Usually this fee will include lunch and all necessary snorkeling equipment.
